Monitoring & Evaluation

Using Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) data is the key to an iterative management process, in which implementation decisions are based on real-time monitoring information and learning from previous experiences. The distinct yet related activities of Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning offer a crosscutting service to all our other areas of expertise and are integrated into every stage of our work from design through implementation to lesson-learning at the end of a program to ensure we deliver lasting results and maximize Value for Money.

Monitoring & Evaluation is believed to be the first line of defense in achieving sustainable outcomes. M&E, when used to inform decision-making, has the potential to contribute to more cost-efficient and effective results and ensure that future projects and programs, from the on-set, adequately take into account lessons learned from the implementation of past activities. Most importantly, long-term monitoring helps clients collect longitudinal data to troubleshoot emerging problems. We help clients develop clear statements of intended results, establish evidence-based targets, improve data quality, and create actionable indicators.

Our goal is to help our clients remain accountable while improving the quality of the services they deliver. We focus on improving data quality, conducting rigorous quantitative and qualitative data analysis, and designing compelling data visualizations and graphics to better report on performance. Our systems analyze performance and whether targets have been achieved, ensuring the five core standards of ‘relevance’, ‘effectiveness’, ‘efficiency’, ‘impact’ and ‘sustainability’. By mindfully connecting these processes, projects efficiently deploy resources, make evidence-based decisions and achieve performance outcomes. Our team has developed innovative methods to gain unprecedented access in complex and challenging contexts, gathering high-quality data through tested and conflict-sensitive approaches.

The lens through which we provide performance monitoring services is focused on learning and adaptive management, ensuring each client receives the performance data they need for informed decision making. To foster learning through performance monitoring, we employ a variety of approaches, methods, and processes to provide timely, credible, and useful information and frameworks that our partners can act upon to increase effectiveness and impact.

We design and implement flexible, participatory Monitoring Evaluation & Learning approaches and also provide tools and technical solutions to monitor the present, evaluate the past and shape the future. With gender and inclusion being a key component of our work, our approaches are focused on continual improvement and learning within organizations, development sectors, and programs. The breadth of our in-house expertise, coupled with our practical experience in many of the key sectors lies at the heart of our M&E reputation and service.

We provide Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) services to clients by utilizing unique data collection and analysis techniques, combining innovative methodologies with tailored approaches, and country/sector expertise. All our data is thoroughly quality checked and validated.

Our strength lies in our network of academic and research professionals who provide expert opinion, and test cutting-edge tools in the field. To date, we have worked in dozens of countries across a wide range of subjects, including peace and security, health and education, and water and sanitation (WASH). We have a special interest and skill in conducting evaluations in difficult environments, including conflict zones and during humanitarian crises.

We maintain a strong commitment to capacity building and learning with local partner teams before, during and after projects. We invest in extensive training and collaborative project management to enhance the skills of our local partners. In doing so, we provide clients evidence of our iterative learning processes, dedicated support on the ground, and the ability to contribute in meaningful ways to field partnerships.

Our M&E services range from project inception and design, to endline evaluations. Our pioneering methods provide additional opportunities to develop further analytical tools for the lifecycle of the project and beyond. Our staff are especially well-versed in ever-developing M&E techniques, and we maintain active academic and policy community engagement initiatives to stay abreast of current best practice.
